JUYOUNG KOH
(SHE, HER, HERS)
Juyoung is a theatre director with a keen interest in lighting design. This passion has led her to work as a light technician and designer alongside her directing career. She is deeply committed to creating meaningful productions and continuously strives to explore complex themes such as contemporary social issues, women's experiences, and the lives of migrant women.
She spent five years with New Universe Theatre Company, renowned for its collaborative devising theatre practices, where she honed her skills in creating ensemble-driven works. Among her notable projects, she served as Assistant Director and Stage Manager for The Princesses: Masters of Their Holes (2019), which earned the Audience Evaluation Team Popularity Award and the Excellent Award at the 40th Seoul Theater Festival. she worked as a planner and publicist for The Shape of Our Days(2021), a production that achieved widespread acclaim, including the Best Theater Award at the 8th E-Daily Culture Awards, recognition as one of the “2021 Best Performances 7” by Monthly Korean Theater the Megazine, selection as one of the “Best Plays of the Year 3” by the Korea Theater Critics Association, and The Grand Prize at the 42nd Seoul Theater Festival.
By taking on various roles throughout her career, she has developed a strong ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams and collaborators.
Juyoung was born and raised in South Korea, where she earned a BA in Theatre and Film Studies. Recently, she relocated to the United States and is excited to continue her work in theater, embracing new opportunities and challenges in a vibrant and diverse artistic environment.
Juyoung is currently based in Colorado Springs, CO, where she is thrilled to be working at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. She looks forward to growing further as an artist, so stay tuned for the exciting journey ahead!
